Sleep-deprived mum leaves baby home alone
Megan Levy, February 16, 2011
A sleep-deprived mother who went to pick up her son from a Melbourne kindergarten this week accidentally left her six-month old baby at home asleep in his cot in a real-life Home Alone moment.
The distraught woman phoned triple-0 when she realised her mistake and emergency services were immediately sent to her Surrey Hills home about 3pm on Monday. A Metropolitan Fire Brigade crew was first to arrive and entered the house to find the baby boy still asleep in his cot, oblivious to the fuss. The four firefighters, along with two police officers who arrived a short time later, stayed with the child until the embarrassed but extremely relieved mother arrived home soon after.
The mother, identified only as Sue, said she hadn’t slept for two nights before the incident and wasn’t thinking straight.
