CBD and Epilepsy Seizures - A New Study

Image result for cannabidiolThis is a study of a pharmaceutical grade pill going through FDA approval. This is NOT a study of nutritional CBD.

The study observed a 22% reduction in seizures. 5% were seizure free. This will be a welcome addition, to therapy.

I always remind parents to watch this literature AND to watch reports of side effects of the agent.

This agent is NOT available in Texas.  CBD is not available from a Texas source at this time. Tough situation for kids- JR

BACKGROUND

The Dravet syndrome is a complex childhood epilepsy disorder that is associated with drug-resistant seizures and a high mortality rate. We studied cannabidiol for the treatment of drug-resistant seizures in the Dravet syndrome.

CONCLUSIONS

Among patients with the Dravet syndrome, cannabidiol resulted in a greater reduction in convulsive-seizure frequency than placebo and was associated with higher rates of adverse events.
