Patients suffering with sleep disorders are more likely to develop infections this winter.
This is the opinion of Dr Ellie Cannon, a GP who specialises in general health. She stated that getting enough rest each night is one of the most effective ways a person can boost their immune system, which would subsequently make them more resistant to diseases.
Other changes a person could make include adopting a healthier diet and participating in more exercise.
"Exercise boosts your circulation and your immune system. That is a great two-fold motivation to keep up the exercise," Dr Cannon added.
She also advised that proteins such as lean meats and fish can also help to improve a person's immune system.
